How do mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters do their trash talking these days?
They take it to the Twitter boards, of course.
At least, that's what Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Middleweight combatants Jason Miller and Chael Sonnen, who is no stranger to taking to the popular social site to express his feelings on all things MMA, did yesterday (April 9, 2012) as the two were involved in a brief, yet entertaining, war of tweets.
Following Sonnen's tweet in what one would assume was his response to Overeem's failed drug test via his personal Twitter account, "Mayhem" got on his personal account and fired a verbal jab at the master of trash-talk, insinuating the hypocrisy of his tweet due to the fact that Chael tested positive for performance enhancing drugs after his bout with Anderson Silva at UFC 117 two years ago to which Chael stated that he was undergoing testosterone replacement therapy (TRT).
Sonnen, of course, quickly dismissed Miller, and his relevance in MMA for that matter, with his own Sonnen-esque rebuttal.
Make the jump to see for yourself:
@mayhemmiller
Chael berating someone on their test level is like me making fun of someone's bad haircut.
@sonnench
MayHem: Due to time constraints I am currently confining my Twitter wars to active, relevant, fighters ONLY. Buy a T-shirt on your way out.
@mayhemmiller
@sonnench don't worry-you're a beatdown away from obscurity. I'll be happy to beat your head in-that's if it's not still on a pike in Rio
Those is fighting words!
Though Sonnen and Miller are very far apart in the rankings, Chael being the clear number two 185-pound fighter in the world and Miller not even cracking the top 10, the two are unlikely to meet anytime soon. However, the possibility of the two trash-talking 185-pounders meeting inside the Octagon is something most fans wouldn't mind seeing become a reality. The two have fought once before, with Chael defeating Miller early on in their careers in the local circuit, 10 years ago.
Both, however, do have a recent common opponent. Miller fell quite short against Michael Bisping at the Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 14 Finale this past December while Sonnen proved victorious against "The Count" at the UFC on Fox 2 co-main event the following month, earning a unanimous decision victory over the British brawler.
Sonnen will next be in action this summer as he is scheduled to receive his long desired rematch against UFC Middleweight champion Anderson Silva at UFC 147 on June 23, 2012 from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. "Mayhem," on the other hand, will look to prolong his stay in the UFC by looking to take out "The Doberman" C.B. Dollaway at UFC 146 on May 26, 2012.
While both have their hands full with other respective opponents, that hasn't stopped either of them from firing taunting tweets at one another.
How about it Maniacs, any of you interested in seeing these two exchange leather inside the eight-walled cage instead of verbal jabs on the world wide web?
