Rep. Gary Miller collected more than $195,000 in the first quarter of 2012, as part of his bid to represent California's hotly contested 31st Congressional District.
The total is slightly below the amount reported yesterday by Redlands Mayor Pete Aguilar, a Democrat also seeking the seat. However, Miller's years in Congress have left him with a far larger war chest. He currently has $1,169,689 on hand, according to a report Miller, R-Diamond Bar, filed today with the Federal Election Commission.
The 31st Congressional District leans slightly Democratic and runs from Rancho Cucamonga to Redlands. Miller, a seven-term congressman, was drawn into a difficult position this summer, when the state's redistricting commission drew new political lines. He chose to run in the 31st after longtime Inland Rep. Jerry Lewis, R-Redlands, announced in January that was retiring from Congress after more than three decades in office.
Miller said he plans to move to Rancho Cucamonga.
Four other candidates in the race have yet to file their first-quarter reports, which are due Sunday. They are: state Sen. Bob Dutton, R-Rancho Cucamonga, and a trio of Democrats — nonprofit founder Renea Wickman, longtime area educator Rita Ramirez-Dean and Loma Linda attorney Justin Kim.
