By: JEFF E. SCHAPIRO | Richmond Times-Dispatch

Virginians have been selected for the boards that oversee the Legal Services Corporation and the U.S. Postal Service, the White House announced this evening.

Robert J. Grey Jr. of Richmond, a former president of the American Bar Association, was nominated by President Barack Obama to the board of directors of the Legal Services Corporation, established by Congress to finance and monitor free civil legal aid for low-income Americans.

James C. Miller III of Washington, Va., budget director to President Ronald Reagan from 1985-88, was nominated by Obama to the postal service board of governors. Among other things, the panel selects the nation's postmaster general, the chief operating officer of the system.

Grey was an unsuccessful candidate for mayor of Richmond in 2008.

Miller twice sought the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate; first in 1994 and again in 1996.

The nominations of Grey and Miller must be confirmed by the Senate.
