Geraldine Miller sends out flyer for SBOE with several errors | Trail ...

millerflier-detail (3).jpgWe would like to offer a "their, they're" to Geraldine "Tincy" Miller, a former chairwoman of the State Board of Education who is seeking to regain her seat in the Republican primary.

Not to rein on her parade, but their seems to be a flue problems with a male flyer her campaign cent out.

On the flyer, Miller lists her strengths and tributes, including this line: "By reigning in the mangers of the Permanent School Fund she saved the state of Texas millions of dollars."

My English teacher would have told me that I could not reign in anyone, unless I were queen. And under legal rulings, mangers are no longer allowed in school funds. I won't even touch the long prepositional phrase beginning the sentence.

George Clayton, the incumbent seeking re-election in SBOE Place 12, has been a longtime English teacher.

He advised, "Ms. Miller should have followed the simple writing process used in most public schools. She should have roughed out some ideas, organized the ideas and written a rough draft. After completing the rough draft, she should have edited the text for grammatical and spelling errors. After correcting the errors and checking for clarity, then and only then should she have published her work.

"I am more than happy to assist with her next text," Clayton said.

Miller could not be immediately reached for comment, but we know she's not the first politician in Texas to have an "oops" moment.

In addition to Clayton and Miller, Gail Spurlock and Pam Little are also seeking the office in the Republican primary on May 29.
