Sienna Miller and Tom Sturridge sat outside for a lunch in London's Soho neighborhood. The couple managed to sneak in some PDA while tucking into a meal with two male pals. Sienna covered her baby bump in a loose-fitting denim top, which she paired with leggings. Sienna's among the many pregnant celebrities at the moment, as it emerged in January that she and Tom are expecting a child. Sienna spoke to British Vogue about their plans for a family: "I'm in my second trimester, so I'm I-can-talk-about-it pregnant, even though I'm under strict instructions not to say anything." It's a particularly exciting time for Tom, who's also got a huge movie on the way. His On the Road will be out this Summer, and is rumored to be making a big debut at the Cannes Film Festival in May.

“Mayhem” Miller: “If I lose to (C.B. Dollaway), I'm quitting!”

The sting of a loss to Michael Bisping seemed to light a fire under Jason “Mayhem” Miller. The former coach on The Ultimate Fighter has been traveling the globe to improve his overall skills and cardio since the loss late in 2011 to “The Count.” Now, with a match against C.B. Dollaway signed for UFC 146 on May 26, Miller knows he is in a win-or-go-home situation.

His current run is Miller’s second stint with the UFC. His first was a one-and-done appearance, as the host of MTV’s Bully Beatdown was defeated by Georges St. Pierre and sent packing. With so much riding on this fight, Miller has put as much pressure on himself as any fan or Zuffa executive, a point he made clear on MMA Uncensored Live this past week.

“I’m on my own chopping block,” explained Miller when asked if he felt his job was at stake in the bout. “If I lose to him, I’m quitting! I don’t even deserve to be in there! There’s not an easy fight. In the UFC, there’s no easy fight (but) he doesn’t deserve to be in there with me, and I’ll prove it.”

Miller has gone 2-2 in his last four fights, though the UFC was very close to cutting him after the defeat against Bisping based on how lackluster his showing was. Dollaway, meanwhile, also enters the bout following a rough patch, dropping two straight since racking up a three-fight winning streak.

“We’re both in a similar spot in our career I guess,” Miller said of Dollaway. “We’re both on the chopping block. That’s fine. I’m really happy with that.”

Miller-Dollaway will be part of the prelims for the PPV event. The entire main card is made up of heavyweight fights including a headlining tilt between champ Junior dos Santos and #1 contender Alistair Overeem.

Pregnant Sienna Miller & Tom Sturridge: Soho Cafe Couple ...

Posted Saturday March 31, 2012 7:36 AM GMT

Easing into the weekend with a relaxing lunch date, Sienna Miller and Tom Sturridge were side-by-side in the Soho neighborhood of London on Friday afternoon (March 30).

The expecting actress and her babydaddy grabbed up an outdoor table at a local cafe as they enjoyed the fine spring weather while responsibly sipping on refreshing glasses of iced water.

As for her experiences thus far during her first pregnancy, Miss Miller confessed that she's had quite the hankering for sweets as of late.

The 30-year-old dished, ”I feel very grounded, more than ever – it’s a wonderful feeling. But all of a sudden, I’ve started to get cravings. I usually don’t have a sweet tooth but these tarts I could eat all day long!”

Unwilling to offer up much more about her baby-on-board, Sienna recently told Vogue, "I’m in my second trimester. So I’m I-can-talk-about-it pregnant, even though I’m under strict instructions not to say anything as it would completely defeat the point of everything I’ve tried to achieve in the last eight years.”

Jimmy Miller retiring | All Over Albany

Today is Jimmy Miller's last with the Albany Police Department -- he's retiring after 20 years, 13 of those as the APD's spokesman. Miller's probably logged as much (or more) time on local TV newscasts over that time as anyone. Many of the Albany crime stories in local media outlets have originated from his press releases (and, as is often the case, just been re-written versions of those releases). And, of course, last year he became the story when he was arrested for DWI. Miller is apparently considering opening his own PR shop -- or even running for office. The APD's new public information officer is Steven Smith. [TU] [YNN]

Geraldine Miller sends out flyer for SBOE with several errors | Trail ...

millerflier-detail (3).jpgWe would like to offer a "their, they're" to Geraldine "Tincy" Miller, a former chairwoman of the State Board of Education who is seeking to regain her seat in the Republican primary.

Not to rein on her parade, but their seems to be a flue problems with a male flyer her campaign cent out.

On the flyer, Miller lists her strengths and tributes, including this line: "By reigning in the mangers of the Permanent School Fund she saved the state of Texas millions of dollars."

My English teacher would have told me that I could not reign in anyone, unless I were queen. And under legal rulings, mangers are no longer allowed in school funds. I won't even touch the long prepositional phrase beginning the sentence.

George Clayton, the incumbent seeking re-election in SBOE Place 12, has been a longtime English teacher.

He advised, "Ms. Miller should have followed the simple writing process used in most public schools. She should have roughed out some ideas, organized the ideas and written a rough draft. After completing the rough draft, she should have edited the text for grammatical and spelling errors. After correcting the errors and checking for clarity, then and only then should she have published her work.

"I am more than happy to assist with her next text," Clayton said.

Miller could not be immediately reached for comment, but we know she's not the first politician in Texas to have an "oops" moment.

In addition to Clayton and Miller, Gail Spurlock and Pam Little are also seeking the office in the Republican primary on May 29.

Mayhem Miller: If I Lose To C.B. Dollaway At UFC 146, 'I'm Quitting ...

Photo by Esther Lin for MMA Fighting.

UFC middleweight Jason"Mayhem" Miller faces C.B. Dollaway at UFC 146 on May 26 in Las Vegas. He's coming off a very one-sided defeat at the hands of Michael Bisping at The Ultimate Fighter 14 Finale in December. Dana White called that performance one of the worst he'd seen.

Miller's heard the critics and he's not happy either. The 31-year-old Miller was a guest on Spike TV's MMA Uncensored last night and had the following to say (transcription via MMA Mania):

"I'm on my own chopping block. If I lose to him, I'm quitting! I don't even deserve to be in there! There's not an easy fight. In the UFC, there's no easy fight. He doesn't deserve to be in there with me, and I'll prove it. I'll prove it in under a round, because, we see...I tend to get tired in the second round (laughs). We're both in a similar spot in our career I guess. We're both on the chopping block. That's fine. I'm really happy with that."

That's a bold statement but it's a very logical one. Miller is one of the most famous MMA fighters on the planet thanks to his multiple seasons as the host of MTV's Bully Beatdown and his own tireless self-publicity efforts. He's got a 23-8 record as a professional in a career that started back in 2001. He's never held a major title but he's been in the cage with multiple champions (Georges St. Pierre, Jake Shields, Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza) and acquitted himself well.

Mayhem's got nothing to prove except whether or not he belongs in the Octagon in 2012. Looking forward to seeing how he does.

Darius Miller's hometown excited for local hero | The Kentucky Kernel

MAYSVILLE, Ky. — UK’s senior basketball star, a member of the No.1 team in the nation, achieved celebrity status in his hometown. But that was eight years ago.

Darius Miller has become well known in Lexington over the last four years, but 65 miles away in the town of Maysville, Ky., he has been a local hero for nearly a decade.

“Everybody really started talking about him when he was in the eighth grade,” said Hoss Sweet, a counselor at the Tom Browning Boys and Girls Club in Maysville. “Darius is a hometown hero.”

Miller was a regular at the club, Sweet said.

“He played a lot with the kids. Showed them how to shoot, pass and play defense,” Sweet said. “He’d walk in here and every kid here would run up to him.”

Sweet explained that Miller was a huge part of Maysville’s favorite pastime: basketball.

“Maysville is a basketball town,” Sweet said.

Miller helped lead Mason County High School to a state championship in 2008, and was named Kentucky Mr. Basketball the same year by the Kentucky Lions Eye Foundation.

Miller wasn’t the first MCHS player to receive that title, however.

“Everybody always compared him to Chris Lofton,” said Jonathan Reynolds, a former classmate of Miller’s.

Lofton, also a graduate of MCHS, got attention in 2004 when he signed with the University of Tennessee, despite being named Kentucky Mr. Basketball his senior year.

Miller did not follow suit.

“Darius always wanted to go to UK,” said Brian Miller, his father.

Brian Miller played basketball at Morehead State University and said that he recognized his son’s abilities at a very young age.

“In his early years, he played with us and held his own,” Miller said. “His basketball IQ is off the charts.”

Darius Miller’s success on the court didn’t affect his attitude off of it, said Kathryn Pfeffer, another classmate.

“Everybody would crowd him in the hallway,” Pfeffer said. She was a freshman when Miller was a senior and said “he was ‘the guy,’ but didn’t really have a big ego.”

Even Brian Miller admitted his son was a local celebrity.

“Darius always got attention,” he said.

Brian Miller is Darius’ self-proclaimed toughest critic, but when asked to describe his son in three words, he chose “humble, shy and loving.”

But on the other hand, with so many supporters in Maysville, who lays claim to the title of ‘Darius’ biggest fan’?

“I’m just mom,” Nicole Miller said. “I try not to talk about basketball with him.”

Nicole Miller said that while she wasn’t a very big fan of the game, she couldn’t be more proud of her son.

“To see him accomplish his dreams, there’s nothing better,” she said.

Although no one can predict what the future holds for Miller and the UK men’s basketball team, Nicole Miller said that one thing is certain.

“I’ll be proud of him, no matter what.”

UFC 146: Jason 'Mayhem' Miller will retire if he loses to CB ...

UFC middleweight Jason Miller (pictured) tells Spike TV's 'MMA Uncensored Live' that he is placing himself on the chopping block and expects to defeat C.B. Dollaway to right his own ship at UFC 146 in Las Vegas, Nevada on May 26, 2012. Photo by Esther Lin via Strikeforce.

There's nothing like a good ultimatum, especially when it involves a fight to determine a man's status as a professional fighter. From time to time, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White has doled out such "make or break" stipulations to his employees.

Oddly enough, this time the gauntlet has been thrown down by a fighter ... on himself. Jason Miller appeared on Spike TV's "MMA Uncensored Live" last night (March 29, 2012), where he discussed his upcoming fight, a middleweight mash up opposite C.B. Dollaway at UFC 146 in Las Vegas, Nevada, on May 26, 2012.

After getting his clock cleaned by Michael Bisping at The Ultimate Fighter 14 Finale in "Sin City" on Dec. 3, 2011, "Mayhem" is aware that he needs to redeem himself in a big way. According to Miller, if he loses this one, Dana White won't even get the chance to fire him:

"I'm on my own chopping block. If I lose to him, I'm quitting! I don't even deserve to be in there! There's not an easy fight. In the UFC, there's no easy fight. He doesn't deserve to be in there with me, and I'll prove it. I'll prove it in under a round, because, we see...I tend to get tired in the second round (laughs). We're both in a similar spot in our career I guess. We're both on the chopping block. That's fine. I'm really happy with that."

More from "Mayhem" after the jump:

Star-divide

During his on-air appearance, Miller was asked about his fight against Bisping and what went wrong. He was quick to say that he doesn't make excuses, but he might in a few months:

"You know what? I have a new rule. I don't make excuses for fights until eight months after. So, I still have like five more months. I'll come back on here in five months and tell you guys what happened. There's no way to explain a fight you lost without going, 'Well, it was 'cuz of this,' or 'It was 'cuz of that.' There's no way. And I'm not that kinda guy. That's not what I do."

The point was made that while Miller did get beat up by Bisping pretty badly, "The Count" may not be getting the credit he deserves as a fighter himself.

He might get his ass kicked, but not by fighters that "suck:"

"I don't get my ass kicked by sucky guys. I beat the Hell out of 'em. I just came up short that night. I'm not gonna make excuses for it. There's no point to doin' it. You know what I mean?"

Miller's UFC 146 opponent, Dollaway, should be coming into their fight desperate. He's lost his last two bouts, to Mark Muñoz and Jared Hamman, respectively. Everyone knows the UFC isn't big on keeping guys around who lose three in a row.

Three strikes and all that.

Fans and critics are quick to question a fighter's motivation when he loses. Miller is no different, but he wants it to be known that fighting is his passion and what he lives to do, regardless of the other things that may keep him busy outside the cage:

"It's (fighting is) something that I've had a close, intimate relationship with since I was 16 years old. So, there's something there that --it's my wife. you know what I mean? I don't have a wife. That's my wife, and, ya know, someday she'll give me some kids."

Jason 'Mayhem' Miller: 'If I Lose to (C.B. Dollaway), I Quit ...

Jason ‘Mayhem’ Miller makes no excuses for his poor performance against Michael Bisping at the Ultimate Fighter 14 finale, but he’s certainly ratcheting up the pressure for his next fight against C.B. Dollaway at UFC 146.

Miller appeared on Spike TV’s MMA Uncensored Live on Thursday night where he addressed the fight, and it doesn’t sound like he’s giving Dollaway much of a chance when they square off in May.

“No, he doesn’t deserve to be in there with me, and I’ll prove it,” Miller said about Dollaway. “I’ll prove it in under a round cause we see I tend to get tired in the second round.”

Following the loss to Bisping in December, there was speculation that the UFC may not even keep the colorful and brash former host of MTV’s Bully Beatdown for another fight, but the powers that be opted to give him at least one more shot in the Octagon.

That shot comes against former Ultimate Fighter finalist C.B. Dollaway, who returns to action after having hip surgery to close out 2011.

It would seem that both fighters are in do or die situations with Dollaway coming back from two straight losses, while Miller needs to rebound from his abhorrent performance against Bisping last year.

“We’re both in a similar spot in our career I guess. We’re on the chopping block, and that’s fine, I’m really happy with that,” Miller stated.

Miller’s feelings about facing a fighter the caliber of Dollaway appear pretty clear, but if he should lose to the former Arizona State wrestler, he’s ready to call for the end of his own UFC career.

“I feel like it, I’m on my own chopping block. If I lose to him, I’m quitting. I quit. I don’t deserve to be in there,” said Miller.

His opinion is strong and his belief in his ability to beat Dollaway seems even stronger, but Miller knows beyond any boastful statement that any middleweight that’s in the UFC is going to be no easy test.

“There’s not a easy fight, there’s no easy fights whatsoever,” Miller stated.

With such a strong statement, Miller will now get the chance to back those words up when he faces Dollaway in May at UFC 146. The fight between the two middleweights will likely air on the UFC 146 prelims on FX.

Chris Miller Wants to Bring New Energy and Resources to Young ...

In 2010, the non-profit group Service Corps of Retired Entrepreneurs, or SCORE, awarded Chris Miller and his business partner Cole Strunkard with an Omaha Entrepreneur of the Year award. The award was given in response to the pair’s innovative property management company, DeltaREP. Now 27, Miller has not only founded a successful property management company, but also expanded operations to a different type of property management in Tampa, Fla., established an Omaha chapter of the Collegiate Entrepreneurship Organization, and founded a scholarship for business students at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Miller has earned dual degrees from UNO in finance and business, and DeltaREP now manages nearly $10 million worth of property in Omaha. Not one to rest on his laurels, Miller is helping to bring to the UNO campus an exciting new conference for young entrepreneurs, the Midwest Entrepreneurship Conference.

We spoke with Miller while he was attending a similar conference at the University of Tampa, in a city that has also benefited from Miller’s drive to help young entrepreneurs find resources and inspiration. In 2010, while enrolled as a graduate student at the University of Tampa, Miller was instrumental in organizing the Southeast Entrepreneurship Conference (SEEC). He went on to attend both the 2011 and 2012 SEEC as a featured breakout speaker. For the upcoming MWEC, Miller will present “How to Buy Anything When You Have Nothing – Fun with Private Capital.”

One thing that sets the MWEC apart from other regional conferences is the median age of most of the featured speakers. Miller and the other organizers have made a point of spotlighting younger entrepreneurs. Miller himself began his career in real estate at age 20, and founded DeltaREP immediately after graduating. He says he thought it was important in student conferences to bring in younger entrepreneurs. Miller believes many business students are hesitant to act on their ideas because they assume that their youth is a limiting factor. By bringing in young, successful business people like Miller himself, students can be inspired to act on their business ideas and make potential startups a reality.

Miller said that while more established entrepreneurs “have a lot of wisdom and experience to share, younger people often need to also hear from more recent successes, to believe that they can do it too.”

Because Miller has been active in bringing resources to student entrepreneurs in different parts of the country, we were curious to get his take on the regional differences between the Southeast and the Midwest. Miller has found that the Midwest is sometimes written off as more agriculturally based than business-based. He firmly believes this is a mistaken impression, pointing out that agriculture means big business. Miller finds that many young people from the area are educated early on about business ideals from family farms, and he noted that the technological advances happening in agriculture today make the Midwest relevant in the world of entrepreneurship. He also cites agriculture as providing the Midwestern region with a strong work ethic, which he sees as an advantage in real-world entrepreneurship.

For those interested in attending the Midwest Entrepreneurship Conference, early registration is available at http://www.mwecomaha.org/?page_id=38. Besides Miller, the event features a number of keynote addresses, breakout speakers and planned networking events.

Detroit Pistons #DraftDreams: Darius Miller PistonPowered

Discuss Draft Dreams on Twitter using the #DraftDreams hashtag

Info

  • Measurables: 6-foot-8, 225 pounds, senior G/F from Kentucky
  • Key Stats: 10.0 points, 2.7 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 47 percent shooting, 38 percent 3-point shooting
  • Projected: Second round to undrafted

Why I like this guy

I’ve always kind of liked the ‘elder-statesman’ type players on Kentucky the last few years. A couple years ago, it was junior Patrick Patterson. Last year, it was senior DeAndre Liggins. This year, senior Darius Miller fits that bill.

All three of those guys are examples of players with the physical skills that suggest they would be excellent first or second options on a lot of college teams, but because of the many dynamic underclassmen they’ve played with, all three of those guys settled into more complimentary roles. This year, Miller does a bit of everything. He’s a good spot-up shooter, he runs the floor, he plays hard and he’s a solid passer for a wing player. Oh, and it doesn’t hurt that he can do things like this.

Pros for the Pistons

Miller has two assets that make him potentially attractive to the Pistons as a second round pick: he makes them bigger and more athletic on the wing, something they desperately need, and he gives them another spot-up 3-point shooter, something that has been a weakness for the team this year.

The Pistons are committed to Tayshaun Prince as the starter for the foreseeable future, but beyond him, things are up in the air. Austin Daye is under contract for just one more season, and he doesn’t really defend well enough for Lawrence Frank‘s liking so far, plus his main skill — shooting — has failed him this season. Kyle Singler might stay overseas, and even if he did join the team, there are still questions as to whether he’s athletic enough to guard NBA wings. Jonas Jerebko might be better suited for small forward, but unless the Pistons add depth to their frontcourt, he could get stuck playing most of his minutes at power forward for another season.

Miller has the prototypical build that Daye lacks for the NBA small forward position, he has the shooting ability that the team is weak in currently and he’s already used to being a complimentary player. All of those things should be selling points for him with one of the Pistons’ second rounders.

Cons for the Pistons

Unlike Liggins last year, Miller isn’t a lockdown perimeter defender. Liggins’ lacked a NBA-ready offensive skillset while Miller, though not a terrible defender, doesn’t always have the later movement to defend really fast wings. As a bench player in the NBA, that will not be a huge issue, but teams considering him will certainly want to see him improve that in predraft workouts.

Though his shot is good and he has range out to the NBA 3-point line, he also is the beneficiary of playing on a Kentucky team with three likely lottery picks. Kentucky has playmakers all over the court who command the attention of the defense. Right now, the Pistons only have one player, Greg Monroe, who draws extra attention from defenses. Miller would have to adjust to perhaps getting less clean looks at threes than he’s become accustomed to. Good shooters can definitely do that, but there’s a big difference between being a role player on a good team, which he is now, to a role player on a bad tea, which he’d be joining if the Pistons picked him.

What others are saying

Chad Ford:

Positives:

  • Very good spot up shooter
  • NBA 3 point range on his jumper
  • Solid penetrator
  • Good size/athleticism for position

Negatives:

  • Has been a reserve is whole career
  • Can struggle to control penetration as a defender

DraftExpress:

On the defensive end, Miller has shown some development, but still gives up too much dribble penetration. Miller has done a nice job contesting jump shots, and has had some very nice possessions, but is still plagued by the lapses in concentration and effort we described in our last report. Considering his physical gifts and potential on this end of the floor, Miller’s ability to better use his size and strength more consistently on this end is worth keeping an eye on.

NBADraft.net:

Miller has played a key role for Kentucky, injecting his unselfish mentality in order to maintain a balanced and poised attack. Though his skills are rarely showcased due to his talented surrounding counterparts, Miller has shown a soft touch in the midrange and as a spot-up threat on the perimeter. He’s hit at least three three-pointers in three of his last five games, while proving capable of shooting off a pump-fake and dribble.

He’ll be asked to play the same role at the next level that he plays in college, so the transition process won’t be overly daunting. While his ceiling is low, a playoff team looking to fill their rotation will likely use their second round pick on this serviceable reserve. He went from #60 to #47 in our 2012 mock draft.

Sports Illustrated:

Throughout his career in Lexington, Miller has been overshadowed by flashier, younger teammates. But there was one prominent witness who offered righteous testimony to what the kid had just done. “Miller is the fiber that holds that team together,” Mississippi State coach Rick Stansbury said. “He has got one thing nobody else on the team has. He has got experience. … All those other guys deserve what they get, but Miller is their most valuable player.”

Yahoo!:

Miller has spent his entire career as the guy who operates effectively in the background while his more celebrated teammates take center stage. He never has been even a second-team All-SEC selection. It’s perhaps only fitting that the individual honor he finally earned this season was the conference’s Sixth Man of the Year award, after he moved from the starting lineup into a reserve role.

This is a guy so unselfish that he actually got benched during a regular-season victory over Mississippi State because he passed up an open shot. Yet he also knows when to take over. In that same game, Miller scored 12 points in the final eight minutes to help Kentucky come from behind.

What is the best thing Darius Miller does for his team?

Glenn Logan (follow him on Twitter) writes for A Sea of Blue, SB Nation’s Kentucky site:

Darius Miller has a rare combination of size and feel.  He can pass, shoot with range, attack the rim, handle the ball in almost all situations and defend 3 or 4 spots.  In college, he was a nightmare matchup at 6’8″ when playing the 2-guard. The best thing Darius Miller does for Kentucky is glue the team together, kind of like Draymond Green for Michigan St., only within a supporting role. He leads by example, and he does what he has to do to get Kentucky to a victory.

INDYCAR: Miller's Mailbag, 3.28

Hello open-wheel types and thanks for all your questions. I intend to answer your questions every week during the season, so just email me at . Don’t feel left out if I didn’t directly respond. I appreciate your interest and passion.

~Robin Miller

The Mailbag has received lots of inquiries wondering if INDYCAR is ever going to be part of a new racing game so here is the latest from Greg Gruning:

"We have signed a deal with Simraceway.com to include INDYCAR as part of their online racing game. They launched last November and already are developing a sizeable following among racing game fans. The game is free to join – basically you pay for upgraded content. The game offers great flexibility in terms of game modes, content pricing, and control input (you can use anything from a keyboard to a full motion rig—they even their own racing wheel) What we really liked about them is that they are big on authenticity. They have been working with Dario Franchitti and Allan McNish, who won at Sebring, shaking down the cars.

It’s only beta at the moment but once it’s fully up-and-running it’ll be offering free, laser-scanned tracks, over 600 licensed cars, including our 2012 IZOD INDYCAR Series cars. They will also have a groundbreaking skill-matching system that they say will guarantee competitive racing for drivers of all abilities.

There are other deals we hope to announce in the near future.’’

Regards, Greg Gruning | Executive Vice President-Corporate Business Development, INDYCAR

Q: If St. Pete was an indicator of the rest of the year, then 2012 promises to be one of the best seasons we have ever seen in AOWR. The drivers drove smart (no Turn 1 pileup!), the racing was great, the passing was great, and best of all the top 5 were not the same group we've seen for the last 2 years! Race Control was never heard from, the pit strategy was fun to watch, some cars had mechanical trouble (finally!), and you had a great feel-good story to end the day (Nobody could have celebrated like Helio). Really, what more could anyone ask for in a season opener? I know. A television channel that actually gives a crap. ABC damn near cut off the broadcast before they even interviewed Helio (the credits were rolling as he was stepping out of the car). Seriously? What the Hell ABC!!! Whatever Sunday bullcrap you had planned is NOT more important than the race you are scheduled to air. I don't care if they were running over, that is NOT cool!!! Indy Car either needs to force ABC to step up their game or they should leave for NBC for good. You know ABC wouldn't pull the kind of a stunt for a NASCAR race and Randy Bernard needs to make it clear he won't put up with it either. For the first time in ages, I actually though the ABC broadcast was decent. The way they ended it certainly soured my mood. St. Pete was great, I cannot wait for them to come back to Baltimore, and if I plan my schedule right, I might even be able to hit up Milwaukee for the first time ever. So happy that 2012 is underway!

RM: Like I wrote on SPEED.com, for all the unknowns going into the weekend it turned out about as good as anybody could have for-seen and looked downright professional on every level. Not sure what followed the race on ABC but when you’re the stepchild of a network, that’s what happens.

Q: I thought it was a great weekend of racing. It looks like there are more nationally powered & relevant sponsors fully invested then there has been in some time. (Chevy, Honda, Lotus (to some degree anyway), Shell, Target, Verizon, IZOD, DHL, Dr Pepper Snapple, GoDaddy, Geico). Granted, most of the major sponsors come from the 4 biggest teams, but the runs by Pagenaud & Newgarden show the level of talent in the series. The series is validated with the international success of drivers like Barrichello, Pagenaud & Bourdais. The sound was great & the cars popped. Sure there is more potential with aero kits, street course standing starts & more horsepower but we know they are already coming or possible. Are there any other real likely players in the 2013 aero kit game other than the 3 manufacturers? Are there any more rumbles of other engine suppliers joining in the coming years? The single gripe I have with the weekend was the headline on IndyCar.com 'Power Sets a Track Record in Claiming Pole Start'. If I understand correctly, Will's time of 1:01:3721 was the fastest since '04 when the then IRL (nausea) first began racing at St. Pete. Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't the St Pete layout the same in 2003 when CART ran there? If so, Bourdais ran a lap of 1:00:928 in Q2 & Q3. I know CART was a different sanctioning body but doesn't INDYCAR own the rights to CART's history?

Jordan, Binghamton, NY

PS Marshall it was great to see your tech videos on Speed.com. Hope to see more like it!

RM: Fiat showed some interest and now with The Captain running Fords in NASCAR we’re all hoping he can steer them back to INDYCAR. Haven’t heard anything about new aero kits other than we assume Honda and GM will make their own. Yes, St. Pete is the same track and Seb did it with about 200 more horsepower. I understand your gripe though because, technically, Will’s run was not THE track record – just the track record for the IndyCar Series.

Q: With the exception of minor shuffling on restarts, there was only a single legit pass for position on track at St. Pete. It was purely a pit strategy/mileage race with just a single highlight of driver skill for 26 cars during an entire race. They might as well as saved some serious money and bought 26 Prius' and made the race about fuel efficiency. Yes it is the first race with new cars but the question is do we really think Dallara and INDYCAR have the capability to create changes to the cars that would promote passing? BTW the broadcast sucked. No mention of the changes in livery, sponsorships. Heck they didn't even mention car numbers just the names of the drivers assuming all fans would already have known who was driving what car. I love the fact that TGBB's name was not mentioned once during the race. I hope the drivers and team owners advocate for whatever changes are needed to get some passing. Watching Will Power (not to mention several other hot shoes) go an entire race without a pass should be seen as a huge problem. Did I mention the broadcast sucked beyond belief?

Tom, Gilbert, AZ

RM: Sadly, because of ABC’s pathetic coverage you viewers missed quite a bit of passing from fifth to 15th all afternoon. Simon Pagenaud, J.R. Hildebrand and Josef Newgarden made some nifty moves, as did Ryan Briscoe, but obviously nobody sitting at home saw them. After the race I asked Dario if it was tough to pass and he replied: ``It must not have been, I sure got passed by a lot of people.’’

Q: A lot to like for the weekend. Sure, it was mostly processional and Always Bad Coverage was in effect, but you have to like the great weather, "gorgeous facility", lack of last year's stupid driving, lots of different strategies, and a popular winner with a nice DW tribute to start the season. Two things, I'm still not sure I understand the huge grid penalty for Pagenaud given the engine change was made prior to qualifications, and how was he able to march through the field twice when Power and Dario were mired mid-pack? Based on his and Dixie's comments, I can see Dario's issue possibly being Honda power, but is there any thought to Power's mentality making it hard to come from behind or him just having a setup to run in clean air only?
Andy, Nashville, TN

RM: The penalty is really against the engine manufacturer for not being able to run 1,850 miles before changing but it’s the driver who suffers. I think 10 spots is too harsh (only five in F1) and I guarantee you that if Simon had started sixth he would have been a factor in the outcome. Will was real fast in front but struggled after that first pit stop and Franchitti said they basically missed the setup.

Q: I hope I'm not the only one extremely disappointed/mad by the pace of the DW12 package. I was excited about the new formula and could tolerate another year of spec cars, the obnoxious rear fenders and the zoomy side-pods if they were faster. The old Dallara was heavier, designed exclusively for ovals with a de-tuned motor and one could have qualified on the front row this year in St. Pete. The fact they didn't come close to breaking 60 seconds there is sad. Very sad. They need 300+ more horsepower tomorrow.

Paul, Chicago

RM: All the drivers agree with you, more power, but the new car is within a few pounds of being just as heavy as the Crapwagon. For me, at least they looked and sounded faster than the old cars.

Q: I'd like to give a standing ovation to Mr. Beaux Barfield, and the race control team, and congratulate them on executing a fine, smooth, professional race on their debut. I'd also like to extend that congratulation to the drivers for executing a fine, smooth, professional race. The lack of silly spins and silly, overly-optimistic passing attempts kept the cautions to a very acceptable minimum. I'm sure a lot of newbie fans thought that was a boring race, but for a semi-old-timer (I'm only 41) like me it was, as you stated on Wind Tunnel, "a typical street race". I wouldn't necessarily say that Helio ran away with that race, but because there wasn't a litany of unnecessary cautions the front runner's did build comfortable gaps to the field. And of course the varying fuel strategies allowed Helio and Dixon to run rich while Hunter-Reay had to settle for third because of fuel concerns. Such is racing and perhaps next week the strategies will be reversed. Now being an open wheel fan I must switch gears and do my bitching and moaning for the week. And since I had to take this one in from my living room, my piss and vinegar is directed at the broadcast. Why does ABC/ESPN continue to insist on treating its motor sports audience (I watch Sprint Cup, Nationwide and ALMS on ABC/ESPN too) like morons? Their production team seems clueless about the intricacies of motor sports. During those long green runs when the leaders are gaping the field, the fan sitting at home should be hearing diatribes explaining the various fuel strategies and what effect the accumulating lap times are having on those strategies. What did we get on Sunday? Filler fluff interview excerpts from a couple of the drivers. It's as if they think the common fan can't comprehend or care less about multiple strategies. I think this is why Indycar continues to fail at garnering new fans, if your broadcast team doesn't care enough to deliver a quality broadcast, then why should a casual/new fan care to tune in? At least I can take comfort in knowing that Jon Beekhuis and Wally Dallenbach of NBC Sports will provide that strategy narrative that is absolutely required to make street/road course racing compelling TV. Please use whatever influence you may possess and urge all the management types at Indycar, ABC/ESPN, and NBC Sports to watch a SPEED broadcast of any F1 race (including qualifying). That way they'll actually see a quality race broadcast. If they can't learn from that, then they'll never learn.

Chris M., Long Beach, CA.

RM: I never heard Beaux’ name mentioned all weekend and that’s the way it should be. He changed the way the race started (at the green and not the S-F line) and that certainly helped on the start and restarts. And his doing away with the imaginary lines also made it possible for Helio’s outside pass of Dixon, who took the inside line as the leader rightfully should. There is no excuse for ABC, well it’s a poor excuse, and you can bet that NBC won’t lose the plot this weekend.

Q: A suggestion to INDYCAR, don't televise a race on the same day as a F1 race. I watched the snooze-fest and if this is the future of Indy car racing, move on to Plan B. Watching these ridiculous looking cars following each other lap after lap was painful. If there ever was a more glaring example of Spec Car Competition it had to be watching Malibu Racers tearing up the track. Sorry folks, the car is hideous to look at and at some angles it kind of reminds me of a vacuum cleaner of the future. What a surprise that Penske has the Chevy engine figured out. I have an idea how to make it more fun. Penske has to use the Lotus power plant and everyone else can use whatever it wants (Briggs and Stratton included). Not a fun day to watch the start of a new season. On yeah, another stellar performance by the Ladies of INDYCAR.

Gary the Grouch

RM: The only reason F1 was more entertaining was because of rain. Had it rained in St. Pete, we would have seen the same thing. But I do like your idea about RP going with Lotus, at least for a couple races.

Q: It was the first race without TGBB as race controller, but INDYCAR still can't get the starts right. Even though they made an effort to come down the main straight in twos, they were all over the place well before the start line. If a driver earns the right to start in a certain position in qualifying, he or she should be there as they cross the start line. That start should have been waved off and done right. I am guessing the only way the "World's Greatest Drivers" are going to do it right will be when penalties are put in place for doing it wrong. Maybe a drive through on the next lap? I still think a remote rev limiter switch connected to the green flag is the way to go. Oh well, they have a few more tries to practice for Indy.

Keith Hines, Pitt Meadows, BC Canada

RM: Barfield had them start racing at the green flag, not waiting until the start-finish line and I thought that was smart because they had more time to spread out. Looked like pretty good starts and restarts to me.

Q: My thoughts from Round 1 are that no matter how much faster Will Power is than the rest of the field his team will find a way to lose it for him if someone hasn't hit him already. Everyone who hasn't driven a F1 car or a new Le Mans Prototype recently struggled mightily with the hand clutch and stalled on pit lane or couldn't get the car restarted on track. Teams also underestimated the battery power needed to run all the new electronics. Finally everybody and I mean everybody should be thanking god that Sebastien Bourdais is racing for Lotus Dragon because after watching his brief stint in the top 10 during the race hold up some of the faster cars in what appeared to be a painfully slow car I am convinced if he had a ride for Ganassi or Penske he would probably win every race on a street or road course.

Mad Max

RM: It was more bad luck than bad strategy because all the two stoppers got rescued by TK’s stalled car, which got them just enough caution. If Seabass or Justin Wilson were in red cars, they’d be very tough. Ditto for Pagenaud.

Q: I am probably in the minority here but after watching Sunday's race at St Pete with the cars painted with the sponsor logos. I do not think they looked that bad, and my 7-year-old grandson thought they were "COOL' (always a good sign). Yes the view of the car from the rear with their "Kardashians" could be better, but am more than willing to trade that for the safety aspect of keeping another car from flying in an accident. My big question is how can ABC keep getting worse? Bourdais went from fighting for the lead, made a routine pit stop and the next information is on a scoring scroll is that he is out of the race. It is NEVER mentioned that is he out or the reason why (still don't know). I know ABC has the contract, and I am not hoping that another broadcaster will take it over soon because that won't happen. But what can be done about getting ABC to actually cover the race, and not just use the race as filler around their pre-recorded shorts and interviews?

Ken, Lake Wateree, SC

RM: Bourdais had some problems that were reportedly associated to the ECU, which gave teams problems all weekend. As for ABC, I have several ideas on how to make it better but the best suggestion is for them to go away.

Q: Just read your piece about the race and you were right on. I was looking for more blown motors but saw only the Sat. actual motor problem for Sam's team. I was very impressed with some of the young guns like Newgarden as well as the new cars. I walk around a lot and they were all very smooth back in the park area. Gives me some hope for the future. Maybe we will see some new winners this year. I thought the racin’ was good all weekend. Pass this on to the powers that be. I sat in the grandstand for the race last Sunday. Many of the fans sitting around me were not happy they paid to sit in the Grand Stand. Only to have the dopy PR people put the pre-race activities on behind them. They only got to see it and the drivers on the Big Screens. They all know NASCAR puts on a big show right out front before the race. Like it or not it is a money PR game today. The PR and TV have got to get even better. The race was good, even better than I expected. I am now trying to make arrangements to get over to Alabama Sat. and Sunday. One question I have. What affect will the pods on the back of the new cars going to have at the Speedway in May? I could see them creating a parachute effect slowing the cars down. I hope some engineer thought about that in the design. Hope to see you in Alabama.

Bob "The Old Man" Lauman, Lawrenceville, GA.

RM: I heard a lot of people who paid to sit on the front stretch bitching about not being able to see the driver intros. It was a BAD IDEA. The road course version does act a little like a parachute but there’s a new version for the ovals.

Miller Park gets LEED certified - TODAY'S TMJ4

CREATED 6:00 AM

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- The home of the Milwaukee Brewers is being honored for going green.

Miller Park has been certified as a LEED building. The L-E-E-D stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design and provides a set of international standards for energy-efficient and environmentally friendly methods and materials.

It's the first stadium with a retractable roof with the designation and third in Major League Baseball. The other two stadiums are AT&T Park in San Francisco and Target Field in Minneapolis.

The Brewers made improvements to the stadium's heating, ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing, electrical and power systems.

Team officials say the changes resulted in reducing more than 1,100 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually, the equivalent to taking 220 cars off the road each year.
